Build Them Up Foundation was founded by Rob & Genny Walters and Tim & Andreea Sommer of SPD Construction. Philanthropy has always been a big part of SPD’s values, so they created an organization that would give back to the construction industry along with other non-profit organizations. 

In 2022, BTUF hosted its first event. They organized a charity golf tournament to give back to one of their own in the construction industry. Chad DeMoss, who worked for a vendor of SPD Construction, was diagnosed with a terminal illness. He was well-known and loved throughout the construction industry. Everyone, vendors, competitors, clients all came together to participate in giving to the DeMoss family. Build Them Up Foundation was able to help give Chad’s family enough to support with medical and living expenses for his wife and children. 

In 2023, BTUF held its first fishing tournament benefiting Texas Children’s Hospital’s Heart Center.

The Heart Center team continues to be dedicated to conducting innovative research as well as providing whole-of-life care for patients with the most complex congenital heart conditions from before birth through adulthood. The physicians and surgeons at Texas Children’s Heart Center see more than 30,000 patients and perform more than 1,000 surgeries annually, with outcomes that are among the best in the country.  

Part of Texas Children’s commitment to becoming the premier destination in the nation for pediatric and adult congenital heart disease treatment includes providing innovative, cutting-edge education and training for patients, families, and staff—with the ultimate goal of improving cardiovascular health in children and adults and ensuring the best possible outcomes. 

In 2024, Build Them Up hosted its first Clay Shooting Tournament benefiting Nora’s Home. Nora’s Home offers solid organ transplant patients and their families an affordable place to stay in the Texas Medical Center (TMC), where they can find support and share experiences with others in the comfort of a home-like environment. The home is located 2.5 miles from the TMC and serves patients suffering from end-stage organ disease and facing the need for life-saving transplant surgery. 

Build Them Up Foundation’s clay tournament contributed to the Adopt-A-Family program. This initiative offers financial aid to guests, easing the burden of lodging expenses during their transplant journey. The donation also helped furnish the home with essential items like kitchenware, linens, pantry staples, and paper goods. 

On April 14, 2025, the Build Them Up Foundation will host a Golf Tournament at Wildcat Golf Course, benefitting Kids Meals and DePelchin Children’s Center.
